Memory Path, 2024
Video Installation

The source material for this work comes from a group photo in the artist's junior high school graduation yearbook. When a viewer gazes at this scene for a period of time, human figures slowly emerge, only to gradually fade away again. With a touch of eerie poetry, the work evokes a sense of both nostalgia and unease regarding commemoration and recording in a technological society.

Profile photos were originally important for identifying individual characteristics, but the most crucial facial details are obscured by QR codes. After scanning the QR code, viewers are directed to the name of the person and related data retrieved through a Google search. Here, the uniqueness of the individual seems to be replaced by the overwhelming search results of the internet, with memories drowning in a vast flood of information. By contrasting a nostalgic viewing method with digital content, the work oscillates between the possibilities of "commemoration" and "de-commemoration."
